Episode 118: Looking forward to 2022

Andi and Lise were joined by book reviewer and fellow podcaster Tara Scott (she/they) to chat about things they’re all looking forward to in 2022 despite the continuing pooshow that is the world.

On the TV: 

Lise: animated series Legend of Vox Machina, Amazon Prime, based on “Critical Role,” a group of voice actors who have been playing D&D together for years. 

Tara: RuPaul’s Drag Race: UK Vs. the World (BBCThree) – a global spinoff. She’s also looking forward to RuPaul’s Drag Race in general (various platforms) and the show We’re Here (HBO), which follows 3 drag queens bringing luv to small-town America. 

Andi: Mandalorian season 3 (Disney Plus) and Only Murders in the Building (Hulu), season 2. 

Books: 

Tara: Count Your Lucky Stars (steamy F/F rom-com) by Alexandria Bellefleur and I Kissed Shara Wheeler (F/F) by Casey McQuiston. 

Lise: Rebecca Roanhorse, Fevered Sun (Book 2 in the Between Earth and Sky series); Naomi Novik’s third in the Scholomance series, The Golden Enclaves 

Andi: John Scalzi, Kaiju Preservation Society and Tochi Onyebuchi, Goliath; also Janelle Monáe’s The Memory Librarian, short speculative fiction featuring Black women writers and Black nonbinary writers and creators 

Games: 

Tara: Rune Factory 5 (Nintendo Switch) and Sea of Stars (Switch; other platforms) 

Lise: Starfield (Xbox) 

Andi: still learning Switch, plays puzzle/mystery games but looking for a FPS for noobs on the Switch 

Movies/TV: 

Tara: not feeling movies, but recommends Mythic Quest on AppleTV, a comedy show about a fictional video game studio working on the fictional game Mythic Quest 

Andi: Everything Everywhere All at Once, starring Michelle Yeoh as a woman who just wants to get her taxes paid but keeps getting sucked into the multiverse to save it. 

Episode 70: A New Year of Geeking Out!

Andi and Lise are getting ready for a new year of geeking out! They each chat about movies they’re looking forward to, books/authors they want to read and other geekly things. To that end, here are some things they’re looking forward to:

Movies:
Wonder Woman 1984 (trailer)
Possibly the re-make of Dune, though both are a little more cautious of that. (trailer)
No Time to Die (latest James Bond; trailer)

Books:
Lise is looking forward to more Seanan McGuire
Andi will be reading more Rebecca Roanhorse and N.K. Jemisin
Both Andi and Lise are really looking forward to reading more diverse spec fic. Here’s a good anthology to get started finding some authors: New Suns: Original Speculative Fiction by People of Color

TeeVee:
Andi is finally watching the animated series Star Wars: Rebels and she’s loving it; she’s also watching the latest season of Dr. Who (Jodie Whittaker as the Doctor); and will be continuing on with her usual series.

Gaming:
Lise is stoked to check out Cyberpunk 2077 (info).

Episode 53: A Walk Down Memory Lane, Part 2

Andi and Lise take another stroll down memory lane, this time chatting about gaming and cosplay and Andi cleverly makes sure that Lise talks about both of those because SHE’S REALLY GOOD AT THEM! And Andi had all kinds of questions for her. 

The games that got Lise started: Zelda and Quest games like King’s Quest. She was also into Elder Scrolls and open world role-playing games. She also plays FalloutBorderlandsMass Effect, and is currently designing some cosplay elements from Skyrim (Elder Scrolls). Also, heads up on the forthcoming Outer Worlds!

Also, Lise geeks waaaaay out about Kameron Hurley’s latest novel, The Light Brigade (see episode 52). Andi mentioned the new seasons of Into the Badlands, Legends of Tomorrow, and Killing Eve as things she’s looking forward to.

Episode 21: Gaming with Meghan O’Brien

While Andi’s away, Lise will play, and what better way to do so than by sitting down for a chat with Meghan O’Brien. Not only is Meghan a fantastic author of lesfic, but she is also an avid gamer.

Lise and Meghan discuss some of the obstacles of gaming as women, which games they’ve gotten into in the past, and the upcoming games they’re itching to get their hands on.
